Game Report -
Saturday, July 10th, 2010.
The
3rd team played at noon under beautiful sunny skies. Coming off a heavy
rainfall the night before, it was rainy day pitch conditions. It
was also difficult for the Creek as they were coming off their first
triple header loss of the season in Brantford. The Creek
dominated play in the first half, but they were not rewarded for their
efforts and left many points on the field. The Creek finally
broke the drought as Shayne Speakman scored in the left corner to give
the Creek a 5-0 lead at the half. The Creek continued to dominate
play in the second half and were rewarded as Kerry Byrne offloaded to
Ross Isbister who scampered 40 metres to give the Creek a 10-0
lead. The Creek then missed a series of tackles on a kickdown
field which enabled an Oshawa player to run 70 metres and score under
the posts...Oshawa 7, Creek 10. This lifted the Oshawa team, and
a big center for Oshawa scampered 25 metres down the left
touchline. He scored under the posts and the conversion made the
score 14-10 for Oshawa. The Creek had multiple chances in the
second half but too many penalties allowed Oshawa to escape and win the
game...final score, 14-10.
The pitch began to dry as the 2nd
team kicked off at 1:30 pm. The Creek started slowly and 7
consecutive penalties saw Oshawa hem the Creek deep in their own
end. Solid tackling by the Creek kept Oshawa off the
scoreboard. Finally the Creek played in Oshawa's end, and off a
second phase dummy, Alex Houston scored to give the Creek a 5-0
lead...conversion Houston, 7-0 the Creek. John Williams then scored as
he took a great line off a quick Creek tap to run 45 metres for the
Creek's next score... conversion Houston, 14-0 the Creek. Oshawa
responded with a try and a conversion to make the score 14-7 the
Creek. John Williams scored again off a quick tap, as great hands
by Lucas Wright and Phil Pederson allowed John to score, making the
score 19-7 the Creek, at half time. The Creek started off quickly
in the 2nd half as Mike Rea picked up at 8 man, and fed the ball to
Lucas Wright who passed back inside to Mike Rea, who
scored...conversion Alex Houston, 26-7 the Creek. The Creek
continued to dominate play and J.D. Cumson was rewarded off a nice feed
from Adam Veldman...31-7 the Creek. Alex Houston then continued
his good play on the day and ran a short side dummy to score, giving
the Creek a 36-7 lead. Dan Wall rounded out the score for the
Creek to make the final score 41-7, Stoney Creek.
The 3:00 pm
kickoff saw Stoney Creek come out slowly and Oshawa dominated the first
7 minutes of play. They were finally rewarded with a penalty to
give Oshawa a 3-0 lead to start the game. Stoney Creek responded
with a 45 metre penalty from Shawn Windsor to tie the score at 3.
The Creek then began to dominate possession and territory and off a 1st
phase ball, James Cumson fed David Jones a short pass as he scored in
the corner and a Windsor conversion from the touchline gave the Creek a
10-3 lead. Then off more good territorial play, James Cumson ran
an 8 man pick and scored...conversion Windsor, 17-3 the Creek.
Then a miscommunication by Creek defenders allowed an Oshawa player to
scamper 65 metres for a score to narrow the gap to 17-10 at
halftime. Great scrummaging by Stoney Creek's Don Radisic, Craig
Litwyn, Scott Deacon, Craig Dinney and John Packer, allowed the Creek
to score a penalty try...conversion Windsor, 24-10 the Creek.
Scott Deacon then scored his first try for Stoney Creek off a Shawn
Windsor offload... 29-10 the Creek. Then off some great Creek passing,
Mike Moore ran 50 metres to score...conversion Windsor, 36-10 the
Creek. Oshawa then scored on a nice counter to make the score
36-15 the Creek. David Jones scored off a quick tap peanlty as
his 35 metre run and a Windsor conversion gave the Creek a 43-15
lead. Dominant play by the Creek pack allowed James Cumson to
score on a pushover try, and a conversion by Matt MacIlvaney, made the
final score Stoney Creek 50, Oshawa 15.
Next action for the Creek is in Oakville as they play the Crusaders, the largest club in Canada.
